Memories of Mr Seel’s Garden – Partnership research project

Arts and Humanities Research Council; University of Edinburgh; Liverpool Primary Care Trust; Parks & Greenspaces; Transition Liverpool; Crest.

Well-designed local food systems can drive climate action, address food poverty and support nature recovery, whilst reconnecting people with the impact of their food. The ‘Memories of Mr Seel’s Garden’ project combined archival research with other methods to identify historic, present and potential future food production sites in Liverpool, to support community growers and food activists.

Sustaining time – Partnership research project

Arts and Humanities Research Council; New Economics Foundation; Reconomy Project; Permaculture Association; Co-operatives UK.

This 2013 project was motivated by the central question, 'What is the time of a sustainable economy?' That is, if industrial capitalism is often linked with clock time, and late capitalism with a speeded up, 24/7 networked time, we explored whether it was the case that attempts to build new alternative economies could be understood as making a new time. ‘Archives provided a wealth of evidence about past temporalities, demonstrating the malleability of temporal awareness and the possibility of change. This proved very inspiring to our partner organisations in challenging dominant modes of production.’ (Alex Buchanan, project co-investigator)
