ARA ALES AGM and Lunchtime Training Event Mon 8 Aug 2022
The Archives for Learning and Education Section's AGM will take place on Monday 8 August and will be followed by a talk. The speaker will be Arantza Barrutia, Collections Manager at the National Fairground and Circus Archive. Arantza has held this role for nine years. Previously she worked in museums and art galleries for 12 years in various roles. Arantza has a BA in Fine Arts, specialised in Conservation and Restoration and an MA in Museum Studies, she is currently undertaking an MA in Archives and Records Management at Dundee University.
In 2019 the University of Sheffield Library joined an international research project led by Ithaka S+R to investigate the use of primary sources by undergraduate students in university library settings. The research focused on the academic use of primary sources, including library collections, archives and special collections, for teaching within the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The aims of the project were to understand how resources are being used, what the needs of academics and students are, what are the difficulties encountered by users and how services can be improved to further incentivise the use of primary sources.
Arantza’s talk, ‘Supporting Teaching with Primary Sources at the Sheffield University Library’, will be held using Microsoft Teams at 1pm on Monday 8 August 2022. In this presentation she will look back at the findings of the project and the changes that have been implemented since. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity for questions and discussion with the speaker.
The event is free to attend for ARA members. To book a place, please complete this online form by Monday 1 August 2022. Information on how to join will be sent to attendees ahead of the event.
