Who would I be working with?
SAM Joint Social Media Officer, Mary Brown
SAM Communications Officers
SAM Chair
The wider ARA SAM Committee as and when required
How much time would be involved?
Attending one AGM per year
Attending bi-monthly SAM committee meetings and writing or presenting a report for each meeting
Occasionally supporting other SAM events and meetings, such as ARA Officers’ Forums and training
1-2 hrs weekly for social media and other comms activities (sharing activities with the Joint SMO)
What would you be asked to do within this particular role?
Work with the Joint SMO to manage the group’s platforms on BlueSky, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Organize contents and visuals to promote the Section’s activities across social media platforms, including information about training sessions, publications and blog posts.
Develop innovative and cost-effective ways of using social media to connect with members, share information (can include investigating new platforms as required)
Monitor and share relevant sector specific news and support promotion of archives/museums services
Support existing campaigns with appropriate promotion and engagement e.g. #ExploreYourArchive, #Museum30, #Archive30, #AskAnArchivistDay, #IAW, #ArchiveHour
Reply to comments made on posts, mentions and direct messages in an appropriate style and tone.

If I am interested, what happens next?
Send in an Expression of Interest to sam@archives.org.uk by 5pm, Mon 31 April 2025. This should be a short statement (max 1 page of A4) explaining why the role interests you and outlining your interest in SAM and ARA activities, and how you would manage your time in supporting SAM committee activities alongside your usual existing time commitments.
The SAM committee will look at the EOIs and will make a choice in May
You will be co-opted to the Committee straightaway and then elected officially at the SAM AGM on In June 2025, for a three-year term.
The current Joint SMO will provide you with support to help you settle into the role
