Stephen Scarth

Honourary Treasurer

Stephen has been employed by the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) since 1996 and has worked across all functional areas including private records, government records, information management and online projects. From 2003-08, he was lead archivist responsible for the conversion of PRONI’s paper lists to an electronic catalogue and document ordering system (eCATNI). Since 2010, he has been Head of Public Services and part of the PRONI Senior Management Team. My responsibilities include all visitor related activities, marketing of PRONI, use of the PRONI building and, on behalf of our parent Government Department, he leads on activities relating to the marking of the Decade of Centenaries (1912-22), a period which resulted in the creation of the two states within Ireland. As this period is characterised by competing historical ‘narratives’, it requires an inclusive and strategic approach to remembering the past.
