ARA SAM provides a focal point for those with interests in archives, museums and galleries from across the nations and regions, and is open to all members in all types of institutions and work-settings.

What would you be asked to do within this particular role?

  • Monitor and share relevant sector specific news and support promotion of archives/museums services

  • Working with subject specialist groups, national or regional contacts across the Museum sector to identify relevant guidance or activities that can support members of ARA SAM

  • Provide museum representation and ensure that museum interests and needs are considered through all Sam activities and events

Who would I be working with?

  • SAM Joint Museum Liaison Officer

  • SAM Communications Officers,

  • SAM Chair

  • The wider ARA SAM Committee as and when required

  • Connections and partners within the Museum sector

How much time would be involved?

  • Attending one AGM per year

  • Attending bi-monthly SAM committee meetings and writing or presenting a report for each meeting

  • Occasionally supporting other SAM events and meetings, such as ARA Officers’ Forums and training

  • 1 hour weekly

If I am interested, what happens next?

  • Send in an Expression of Interest to sam@archives.org.uk. This should be a short statement (max 1 page of A4) explaining why the role interests you and outlining your interest in SAM and ARA activities, and how you would manage your time in supporting SAM committee activities alongside your usual existing time commitments.

  • You will be co-opted to the Committee straightaway and then elected officially at the 2025 SAM AGM for a three-year term.

  • The current Committee will help with your handover over the next few months.
